Case ID is a field that you and your firm can use to organize cases. In your Profile, you have the option to create a default Case ID prefix. In the example above, the prefix is mediator Donna Parsons's initials, DJP. When her case manager, Miles, set up the Landmark Mall Development case, he added the current date and a shorthand case name. You can sort on Case ID; using the example rubric shown here, the cases would be sorted by mediator, then by the date the case was created.
External Case Number is a field that you can use to record an ID number that may, for example, have already been assigned to the case by a referring court or agency.
