Since March 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced most mediation sessions to an online format, using a variety of video conferencing platforms. Along with the proliferation of new online meeting tools and a steady flow of improved features to existing platforms, there has been an explosion of articles, webinars, and online training opportunities to show dispute resolution professionals how to make their online sessions as effective as possible, including our own blog post. ADR Notable is designed to help you whether your meeting is taking place online or in an actual room...
... and, in fact, it will probably be even easier, since you will already be on a computer. Here are some things to keep in mind when using ADR Notable for remote sessions.
1. If you are not already doing so, you may want to think about using a second monitor so that you can have your meeting on one screen and use ADR Notable on the other. Position your "meeting monitor" so that you will be looking at the camera when you are talking to participants and your "ADR Notable screen" below that or just to the side.
Using a single "split screen" can also be very effective, though of course, the larger that screen, the easier it will be...
2. You will schedule your sessions using your own Google or Office 365 calendar and email, to which you can link from your ADR Notable Dashboard. Send the meeting invitation as you normally would and when you set up your case in ADR Notable, select the appropriate box for a phone or video session. This is an item that will appear on your Case Summary report.
3. During the session, take notes as you normally would, being sure to flag proposals when they are accepted by selecting the "thumbs up" icon. When you select Term Sheet from your Case Dashboard, you may want to share your screen to show the participants what you have noted as agreed-upon items and perhaps make your edits right then and there. Insert your standard clauses from My Library in the Preamble and Other Terms boxes, and you will be ready to email a draft to them in no time! Read more about creating your Term Sheet.
